With m|traffic you can experiment how different noise abatement measures influence the noise next to a road with high traffic. You can change and combine the listening distance to the road, the height of a noise barrier, select different asphalt types, introduce a speed limit and listen to the effect of these measures.
The played sound of the traffic noise are physically correct, i.e. the changes in frequency and level introduced by the different measures are very close to a real situation. The research behind the App is part of the German research project for "Silent Traffic (LeiStra3)".
Traffic noise is considered the main noise source in the western world – in Germany alone, more than 60 % of the population feel disturbed by traffic noise.
The simulation is an easy was to easily assess the influence of different noise abatement measures. This way, urban planners, traffic planners, architects and residents affected by traffic noise can get a first impression of the audible effect different noise abatement measures have.
